Christmas in the Kitchen and Breakfast Nook

Giving a tour of Christmas in the kitchen and breakfast nook is not something I thought I'd be doing this year. But here we are, and I am so excited that our budget makeover was finished in time to add some holiday cheer. I'm also thrilled to be joining Sarah over at Room For Tuesday, who is sharing Christmas in her gorgeous kitchen. Her blog is one of my all-time favorites! You won't want to miss her tour, so when you're done here, make sure to head over to her post. This year, I chose to really highlight the rich color of fresh greenery in my Christmas décor. Last Christmas, I used a lot of jewel tones, and while I did love it, this simple, subtle décor feels more fitting to our home and our taste. I don't want to keep you waiting any longer, so click through to see Christmas in the kitchen and breakfast nook. *If you're curious about any of the non-holiday sources in our kitchen, they can be found in the original kitchen reveal post.

Christmas in the Kitchen

taupe kitchen with green wreathMy first order of business was creating a rich, green wreath to hang on the hood...since I have one now! I used my lush garland hack to make this beautiful wreath for free. We have tons of juniper in our back yard, and for the last two years, it hasn't occurred to me to use it in my garlands. This year, since I started decorating so early, and since I needed so much greenery, I decided it made sense just to use what was in our back yard, because if it gets crispy before the big day, I can replace it easily.I have several cheap plastic wreaths, so I grabbed one, weaved the fresh juniper in, recycled some cognac suede ribbon from last year, and added some mini brass bells to the center. It was incredibly easy, and I love the way it turned out. I used a hefty 3M hook to hang it without damaging my hood.dark green wreath on kitchen hoodTo the left of the hood, I added one simple decoration to my open shelf...a Christmas gnome jar. I always want to keep holiday decorations fun for my girls, but still appealing to our overall aesthetic, and this little guy fits the bill perfectly. Noelle has already claimed him for her own house one day. taupe kitchen with open shelf decorAlso, he's the perfect spot to hide a secret stash of Christmas treats for late-night wrapping sessions.white christmas gnome jar on a shelfI strung a few more mini brass bells onto some jute string and hung them from the peg rail for a festive touch that isn't overpowering or tacky. I love the warmth they add, and they are neutral enough to carry into my winter décor. hanging Christmas bells on kitchen peg rail shelfOne really easy way to add Christmas cheer is to place fresh (or faux) evergreen stems into your favorite vessel. I always try to keep something in this spot that will cover up the outlet, and I achieved that with the height of the juniper. Again, festive but not overly Christmas-y, and can carry into winter. Christmas greens in vintage jarOn the other open shelf, I added neutral bottle brush trees and one of the coolest little Christmas houses I've seen. I don't know why little houses are synonymous with Christmas, but I like it...and I love this one. I bought a set of two, and they're something I can use in my styling throughout the year. I also hung a festive tea towel with juuuuust the right amount of red on the peg rail, and it feels perfect for the holidays.Peg rail shelf with coffee cupskitchen shelf with bottlebrush treesI put the other little house beside my crock of wooden spoons. Just a sweet touch of Christmas here. Crock full of wooden spoons with little house in frontHere's a pulled-back view so you can see how everything works together. I'm so in love with the rich, deep green against our taupe shiplap. Taupe Shiplap Kitchen w/Green Wreath

Christmas in the Breakfast Nook

From the moment I brought this arched cabinet home, after finding it for a steal on Facebook Marketplace, I knew I wanted to drape it in fresh Christmas garland. It's dramatic and different, and I kind of want to leave it up all year. breakfast nook with arched cabinet decorated for ChristmasFor this garland, I used a combination of the cheap plastic stuff, nicer faux cedar garland, and real juniper from our back yard. The end result is stunning. black and white floors and Christmas greenery on cabinetI kept things pretty simple with the breakfast nook because I wanted the arched cabinet to be the star. A vintage wooden container filled with faux pine stems and some small wreaths hung on the windows is all this space needed to feel on par with the kitchen. breakfast nook with black and white floors and arched cabinetI added a few festive touches to the inside of the cabinet, but we use these items daily, so I didn't go too far with the décor. Christmas houses inside glass cabinetAnd here it is all lit up...how we keep it most of the time. I still can't get over the transformation of this space, and how magical it is this year versus last year. It truly brings joy to our whole family. arched cabinet with Christmas greeneryOkay, that's it for my first tour of Christmas in the kitchen and breakfast nook in this house. I hope you liked it, but more than that, I hope you found some ideas and inspiration for your own holiday decorating. Now, head over to see Sarah's Christmas kitchen tour, and be sure to follow her on Instagram for even more beautiful inspiration.
