Lush Christmas Garland That's Easy and Affordable
Lush Christmas garland that's easy and affordable is hard to come by pre-made. It's either easy because it's already full and put together, but it's a small fortune, or it's affordable but sparse and fake looking. I have one simple trick for garland that's both lush and affordable. 
Last Christmas, I found the most realistic, affordable faux cedar garland at Target for $20, but when I hung it on our banister, it looked sad. So, I doubled it up. It looked better but still just wasn't the lush greenery I was going for. As I searched online for something beefier and pre-lit, everything was way out of my price range. So, I got resourceful. I pulled out some cheap $10, pre-lit garland I had in my Christmas bins and simply placed it behind the prettier garland. It was magic. I had full, lush Christmas garland that was easy and affordable, and I was able to deck my whole banister without taking out a second mortgage. See last year's Christmas house tour here. This year, I used the same trick for the garland on our reading nook, and I'm even more in love with how it looks here. It's a simple DIY that probably doesn't warrant a tutorial. Nevertheless, I took pictures of the process to share with you so you can achieve the same, affordable, lush look for your Christmas garland.
Lush Christmas Garland DIY
- Select realistic garland in your budget. Here's a roundup of my favorite, realistic-looking Christmas garlands in a variety of prices. Unfortunately, my cedar garland has been discontinued from Target, but there are a lot of other beautiful options out there.
- Buy cheap pre-lit garland to match the length of your realistic garland. This is my go-to.
- Combine two realistic garlands by weaving them together.
- Fluff the cheap garland and place it behind the realistic garland (Do not weave them together or the cheap stuff will show!). Attach in a few places using either the wire branches or green floral wire.
- Stand back and admire!
Lush Garland in the Reading Nook
And now, here's a look at our sweet reading nook all decked out for Christmas. This nook was completed last year in February, so this is the first holiday season I've been able to decorate it. It looks every bit as magical as I thought it would, and the lush garland is the perfect addition.

The shelves of the nook are pretty simple, yet festive. I added a basket of frosted pinecones, some neutral bottle brush trees, and Target dollar spot wooden houses with fairy lights behind to make them glow. 
This gorgeous rust-colored blanket and sage velvet lumbar are perfect for a cozy, wintry feel. A few antique books and vintage bells on the side table complete the look. I just love the way this little space turned out. It's the perfect way to kick off Christmas decorating in our house!
