Our New Kitchen Pantry Cupboard
Last week, I broke the news that I sold our beautiful black arched cabinet. It was the star of our breakfast nook, and I loved the way it looked. But that's where the love affair ended. It was completely impractical with only one center door and a glass front, which made getting things in and out difficult and only allowed me to store pretty display items.

Let me reiterate...I love the way this looks and was not even close to being tired of it or wanting something new. I mean, who wouldn't love this view?
However, after the umpteenth time of cleaning it out, reorganizing, and trying to find a way to store practical items for everyday use, I finally gave in and put it up for sale. After selling it right away, of course, I thought I had secured a pine armoire that was perfect. It was not. The thing was massive, and I had misjudged the scale of it, so off to the garage it went.
After that, I missed out on the perfect pine cupboard that was only $300.
I didn't want to sink a ton of money into a storage piece because when we finally gut-renovate our kitchen, we won't have a place for it to live. There were many cupboards I didn't even take a second look at because the price tag was too high. I'm an avid Facebook Marketplace shopper, and I like a good deal.
But when this insanely gorgeous cupboard hit my eyes, I could not look away.
The price was way out of my comfort zone, so initially I did move along. Weeks later though, it was still for sale and the price had dropped. I must have been feeling bold that day because I messaged the seller, offered $1,000 less than the asking price, and also asked if I could make payments. They agreed and were happy to sell it to someone who would love and appreciate it.
I told them literally nobody would love and appreciate a scalloped cabinet more than me!
When I picked it up, I loved hearing the back story about it. To my surprise, it is walnut and not pine. I love this because walnut is my favorite wood species. I also learned that it was lovingly and meticulously restored, using only original wood. The scallops are not original to this piece, but they were made out of the wood from this piece.
There are so many special details about this pantry cupboard, like the wood plugs used to cover up modern-day screws, the little wood bowties used to hold cracks together, and the smooth knobs and interior shiplap that show the original walnut finish.
Oh, and the original keyholes and hinges...swoon.
I've never seen wide-set dovetail drawers like this before but I love them.
I'm usually not a fan of cerused wood, but I'm head over heels for this piece, including the yummy texture.
But the real star of this show, the piece de resistance, the entire reason I stopped my FB Marketplace scroll and made payments on this baby is the scallop trim. It feels like it was made for me, given how many things I've added scallop trim to in my house.
This pantry cupboard just could not be more perfect for my style and for our kitchen. It has loads of storage, the right dimensions so as not to crowd our breakfast nook, and more charm and character than I ever could have thought possible in one piece of furniture.
What's next? Filling it up with all kinds of beautiful storage jars and moving out some of the stuff that's currently overcrowding the small cabinet pantry next to our fridge. I've started making sourdough bread, so I'll even have a dedicated bread-making shelf.

Can't you just see the inside of the pantry cupboard filled with all those beautiful canisters and baskets? I can, and I can't wait to get started.
