Town and Country Christmas Decor

When I asked my family what they'd like to see in our Christmas decor this year, the answer was unanimous - COLOR. My husband and girls know I don't do crazy, bright colors, but everyone (including me) wanted some variation of traditional Christmas red and green. My personal rule of thumb is to use muted versions of whatever color I choose, so red becomes plum, burgundy, or rust, and green becomes olive, emerald, or hunter. I love how this room came together and that it's dressy with a touch of the outdoors. This is why I'm referring to it as Town and Country Christmas Decor...it blends the side of me that loves the finer things in life with the side that grew up in the country surrounded by nature.Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019I combined flocked pine cones, glass ball ornaments in a variety of muted jewel tones, magnolia leaf and white berry picks, and two different ribbons (plaid and suede) to achieve a look that's festive, beautiful, and hearkens all the country club, equestrian, Ralph Lauren vibes I grew up loving.Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019[show_shopthepost_widget id="3809879"]The dark jade green glass ball ornaments are a favorite find from this season and they were the jumping off point of all my decor. You can imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon wrapping paper in the exact same shade!Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019I used four different beautiful papers and three different ribbons that all coordinate perfectly to create a preppy, Town and Country look.Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019My mantel is pretty simple this year, to allow the Christmas tree to take center stage. I used a pre-lit faux garland and tucked extra pine picks and faux magnolia leaves into it for fullness and interest. Our stockings are neutral but loaded with texture. I offset the whole mantel arrangement and weighted it on the right since the tree is so close to it on the left.Christmas Tour 2019 Christmas Tour 2019I found these sparkly pheasant feathers and knew I had to incorporate them. They add the perfect amount of movement and magic to the mantel garland and reflect the twinkle lights nicely.Christmas Tour 2019For the other side of the room, I kept things easy and just swapped one pillow to incorporate the beautiful burgundy color. I also made a few simple switches on my coffee table to make it more festive without changing up every detail. It makes seasonal decorating less stressful, and when it's time to take Christmas down, there's not as much to put in storage.Town and Country Christmas Decor 2019If you missed it, last week on Instagram I shared a short stop-motion video documenting my process for transitioning my coffee table from fall to Christmas without changing much and using thrifted/vintage items.Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019It's pretty cozy in here now with the Christmas lights and all the greenery, but next Christmas this corner will have the addition of a beautiful window...I can see it now. Last year at this time, we had only been in this house for a little over a month, so this year not only looks better, but it feels like home finally, especially with our Town and Country Christmas Decor.Christmas Tour Formal Living Room 2019Christmas Tour Formal LR 2019There are still a few little touches I plan to add in here, including changing up the ever-popular hat wall, that I can't wait to share! I'll also be sharing our family room, loft, dining room, and kids' rooms all decked out for the season. Until then, I hope I've given you some ideas for your own Christmas decorating, and I encourage you to take it as slow as you need to, enjoy the process, and do something your whole family will love.Have fun decking your halls!Click here to read my post on the most realistic faux cedar garland I've ever seen, and how I draped my banister with it.Click here for my stocking stuffer guide for tween and teen girls.Click here for last year's Christmas porch that includes a bold pop of color.*Affiliate links keep this blog up and running without costing you anything extra.
