Hannah's Wallpapered Bedroom Ceiling

Hannah's wallpapered bedroom ceiling is finally checked off of my ongoing to-do list, and there are no longer two rolls of beautiful bird-speckled wallpaper propped up against the dresser, begging to be hung up and admired. They are where they belong...hanging gracefully over Hannah's head as she sleeps. I knew this wallpaper would be beautiful, but as soon as the first strip went up, I knew it was going to be even better than I had envisioned.

Wallpapered Bedroom Ceiling | Before

I finished Hannah's Timeless Teen Bedroom Makeover back in the spring, during the height of quarantine lockdown. It was my happy diversion, and what I thought was preparation for her to head off to high school. I loved how it turned out, but there were a few missing pieces due to the pandemic. corner of shiplap teen girl bedroom with stacked art, rattan lamp, and grasscloth deskOne of the biggest missing pieces was wallpaper on her ceiling. I could see it up there from the outset of her room makeover, and I just had to follow through with it. But the charming bird wallpaper by Rylee and Cru had been sold out for months. So, I put myself on the list to be notified when it was back in stock, and as soon as I received the in-stock notice, I purchased two rolls. And then it sat there...and sat there...for several more months, until I finally carved out a few hours to complete this overdue project. This is how her room looked pre-wallpapered bedroom ceiling. teen bedroom with white vertical shiplap walls, window centered, stacked art on either side

And here's a glimpse at how it looks now...Side view of Hannah's wallpapered bedroom ceilingI'm not giving a full look at the room because there are several more subtle, post-pandemic tweaks I'm making in here. So many things were unavailable or inaccessible last spring, and now I feel like I can fully carry out the vision I had for this space all along. This post is all about her wallpapered bedroom ceiling. So, a peek is all you get in this post...but it's a good one!Wallpapered bedroom ceiling with fanI've wallpapered several walls, so the process of rolling paste on the ceiling and putting up the paper was pretty much the same...except for the horizontal part. It was a lot more challenging that I thought it would be, so Hannah helped me a few times when I needed an extra set of hands. Other than that though, I did this project by myself in just a few hours. brown swallow wallpaper on ceilingIt looks exactly as charming as I thought it would, and the fact that it has a warm white background was helpful with the seams. Even still, there are a few visible seams, and yes it drives me crazy. But, I have a plan to hopefully disguise them, and even if I can't, they don't bother me enough to be upset over. Can you see the visible seam below?closeup of swallow wallpapered bedroom ceilingHow about now? closeup of swallow wallpaperThat was the one Jeff pointed out when he came home and looked over my work. I call him quality control around here. Honestly though, I love that he helps me see things I miss because I'm a perfectionist and hate it when my work looks like an obvious DIY. Like I said, after seeing the seams he brought to my attention, I got an idea of how to hide them, so I'll let you know how that goes. overhead view of swallow wallpapered bedroom ceilingBut just look at the view from where Hannah sleeps! It's perfectly whimsical, charming, and there's not a visible seam in sight. It's all in how you look at it...literally and figuratively. closeup of swallow wallpaperSide view of girl's bedroom with wallpapered bedroom ceilingSo that's Hannah's charming wallpapered bedroom ceiling. I'm truly thrilled with how it looks. And just like almost every other design decision I make, there is meaning behind this paper. When I was making over Hannah's room, I thought I was preparing her to head off to high school for four years, and it was a sort of letting go for me. There was a little fear of the unknown on both our parts, so I wanted a reminder that His Eye is On The Sparrow. I grew up singing this hymn, and I love all the references to sparrows and swallows in the Bible as a way to communicate how much God cares for us and will watch over and provide for us. So, this paper was every bit as much for me as it was for Hannah, and I could lie in her bed staring up at the ceiling all day, being reminded of the lyrics of that old familiar hymn by Civilla Martin:“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.Of course, now we homeschool (so thankful for this gift), but the world feels heavy, and life is pretty disappointing right now with nothing being open and no extracurricular activities going on. So, this hymn has taken on a whole new meaning, and my hope is that Hannah is reminded every day that God has His eye on her, He knows her struggles, and He is lovingly watching and caring for her through this difficult time. So, what do you think? Have you ever wallpapered a ceiling? Would you ever try? Now that this lingering project is done, I'm excited for the rest of the subtle changes happening in here this month. There won't be anything major, expensive or wasteful...just some tweaks that will bring in more of Hannah's personality and complete the vision we had when we started this design. So stay tuned for the post-reveal reveal...signatureYou might also be interested in:https://wildflowerhomeinteriors.com/roundup-affordable-sconce-lighting-and-sconce-tour-of-our-home/https://wildflowerhomeinteriors.com/diy-upholstered-bulletin-board/https://wildflowerhomeinteriors.com/velvet-headboard-roundup/
