Pinterest Faves and Saves: New Year, New Inspiration
It's been a few months since I've written a Pinterest Faves and Saves post, but with the start of the new year, it seemed like the perfect time to gain fresh inspiration and share it with you. Some of my favorite projects, like our cozy reading nook and café-style kitchen, were born from ideas sparked by Pinterest images. I've been pinning inspiration that has translated to my own home since before Instagram and my blog, and I love sharing the process I've developed for dissecting an image.
Pinterest is such a useful tool for homeowners and interior design enthusiasts if you know how to use it. Let's take a look at five of my favorite recent Pinterest finds and how they are inspiring me and sparking new ideas for the new year.
Pinterest Faves and Saves
1. Learn Something New | I have been dreaming of ways to make our big front porch (a rarity in Southern California) an outdoor living area with a cute railing, porch swing, and lush ferns. The only problem is that, as of late, I haven't had much success with living plants...inside or outside. After reading this post though, I have a game plan for how to add ferns to our porch without killing them. I also have a visual for how our front porch will look with the railing. I love an image that's not only inspirational but educational as well. 
2. Look At The Details | When I look at this image, I see what everyone else sees...a beautiful vignette. But I also see a painted interior door with matching door casing, but different color base and wall color. These details are important to me, especially when I'm working on a project like painting interior doors. I've been trying to decide if I should paint the base and door jamb the same as the door or leave them the same color as the walls. Having a visual like this can solidify a plan you think will work in your mind. 
3. Don't Forget To Look Up | The whole vibe of this room, while beautiful, doesn't really speak to me, but what caused me to save this image was the beams. We are planning to add beams to our vaulted loft, and I've been envisioning this type of placement...bridging the two sides rather than following the roof line. Now I have a visual to show Jeff when he can't see my vision, and I even got a new idea of cladding the ceiling with planks. It's amazing how much you can glean from just one small portion of an image. 
4. Let Color Schemes Speak To You | This image might seem like an obvious choice for my Pinterest Faves and Saves because hello, it's Amber Interiors. However, I saved it because we are planning to have our front room sofa reupholstered in olive green velvet, and we just hung new, neutral drapes in that space. So, in my mind's eye, I simply flip flop the drapes and sofa colors in this image, and I have a good idea of how our front room color scheme will come together...and I love it!
5. Pay Attention To The Feeling | When I look at an image and instantly feel happy, I save it. Then I study it to determine why it makes me feel that way. In this case, it's because of the natural light, happy colors, and interesting patterns in the room. I take that information and let it inform my decisions in a space like Noelle's room. I want a variety of patterns, colors, and textures in her room, and though the color palette will be different, this image gives me confidence to make bold design decisions. The unexpected bonus of this Pinterest save is that I was introduced to an incredibly talented, new-to-me designer named Katie Rosenfeld. Getting lost in her portfolio was a highlight of my week, and I can't wait to study her body of work more.
