Most Requested Paint Colors in My Home
Of all the questions I receive from readers, paint colors in my home top the list. So, this post is dedicated solely to sharing the paint colors I've chosen to use throughout our home, along with information like sheen and brand. The goal is for this to be a resource you can refer to when you're curious about a specific paint color, and I'll be adding to it as we incorporate more color into our home.
Black Fireplace
- Color | Sealskin
- Brand | Sherwin Williams
- Sheen | Satin
I painted this fireplace in just a few hours using a standard 2", short-handled paint brush. It required two coats, and painting the grout lines really chewed up my brush. There was no need to seal the paint, and this is not a working fireplace.
Walls
- Color | Swiss Coffee
- Brand | Benjamin Moore (color matched at Lowe's)
- Sheen | Flat
When we moved in, all the walls got two coats of my favorite white paint. It's warm but clean, and acts as a primer for slowly adding more color to our home. Here is what our house looked like when we moved in.
Banister
- Color | Coal Black
- Brand | Fusion Mineral Paint
- Sheen | Fusion only makes one sheen. It's comparable to satin.
Fusion paint has a built-in top coat, and typically doesn't require much (if any) prep work. I knocked this project out in about two days with a 2" short-handled brush. I didn't do any prep work because I'm a lazy and impatient DIYer, and I didn't use a sealer on top because...well, you get the idea. We plan to replace this banister one day, so this was a temporary fix, but it's holding up amazingly well.
Kitchen Vertical Shiplap
- Color | Algonquin
- Brand | Fusion Mineral Paint
- Sealer | Deft Acrylic
- Sealer Sheen | Satin
I shared how to paint vertical shiplap in this post, and it includes a standard paint brush as well as a foam roller. Since this shiplap is in our kitchen, I decided to seal it with my favorite acrylic sealer. It was a very simple process of rolling two coats onto the flat part of the planks with a foam roller.
Arched Cabinet
- Color | Coal Black
- Brand | Fusion Mineral Paint
- Sheen | Fusion only makes one sheen. It's comparable to satin.
I shared the process of painting this amazing Facebook Marketplace find on Instagram. I used masking liquid to cover the glass, and applied two coats of paint with a 2" paint brush. I did not seal this, as Fusion has a built-in top coat.
Noelle's Room
- Color | Sea Salt
- Brand | Sherwin Williams
- Sheen | Satin
In Noelle's room, I had a variety of surfaces to paint, including drywall, bead board, trim, doors, and plywood. They all took this paint beautifully, and I used a combination of paint brushes, foam rollers, and regular paint rollers. I did not vary the sheens at all.
Hannah's Bedroom
Shiplap:
- Color | Swiss Coffee
- Brand | Valspar
- Sheen | Satin
Trim:
- Color | Accessible Beige
- Brand | Sherwin Williams
- Sheen | Satin
This post explains how I painted the shiplap in Hannah's bedroom, and I simply used a 2" paintbrush to paint the trim. No sealer was needed, and it has held up great.
Reading Nook
- Color | Farm to Table
- Brand | Sherwin Williams
- Sheen | Satin
This is the most asked-about paint color in my home...and for good reason. Painting our reading nook was the same process as all the other shiplap in our home, and required a 2" paint brush and foam roller. I did not seal this paint, and it has held up like a champ.

Well, that covers all the paint colors in my home...so far. Writing this post opened my eyes to the lack of color we have in our house, and now I'm excited about adding more this coming year. Transforming our home has been, and will continue to be, such a slow process, but I'm thankful because it has given me time to evaluate if I want color (yes, I do) and where I want to incorporate it. Do you use color in your home or are you a neutral lover to the end? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below. As always, thank you for your support and for being here. Because of you, my blog is slowly growing, and I am forever grateful. Happy Holidays,
